Planters are designed to be full right from the start, but the summer heat triples their size and makes for a spectacular display. As a special extra for my seasonal subscribers, I'll stop by in mid summer to deadhead, prune and fertilize your containers, free of charge.

Longer days and warmer temps means it's time to swap out the spring flowers and bring in the bold colors and textures of Summer. Tropical plants and the 'thrillers' steal the show with plenty of lush bright flowers to spill over and trail down the sides.

The colors turn to gold, buff, orange and burgundy. Autumn is the perfect time to pair the airy movement of golden grass with the heft of the hardier and cold-tolerant pumpkins, ornamental Kale, Mums, Sedum and cut botanicals like Dogwood twigs and seed pods.
